The Formal Dining Room
Grandeur and opulence preside over meals in the Formal Dining Room. Comfortably seating 16, the grand mahogany table is centered under a large, stunning, crystal chandelier. The marble fireplace is dominated by a massive mirror which adds depth and light to the room. The lush blue-green curtains which adorn the windows provide warmth, color and texture as does the oriental carpet. The solid wood sideboard and china cabinet are reminiscent of the furniture of the period, displaying only a representative fraction of the mansion’s vast collection of china and other finery.
The Auxiliary Dining Room
Originally designed as a library for Mr. McNeil, this room has long been utilized as the informal dining room for family and intimate friends. The built-in, chambered bar and cabinetry monopolize the north wall of the room. The west wall is accented by yet another Italian marble fireplace with overlooking mirror. Eight hand-carved lions leap forward dramatically support the red oak mantel. A mahogany table, seating ten, is centered under a sparkling crystal chandelier. The oriental carpets on the floor of the room add color and charm and are contrasted by the exquisite beaded window treatments and beaded silk window shades.
A unique feature of this room is the interior bay window and window seat which offers an open view of the Sun Parlor and provides “connection” between guests when the house is hosting to its full capacity. Original to the home, this unconventional design element is often a favorite resting spot for guests and family members alike.
